UMMC Exchanges One Million Patient Records with Medicaid Using Care Everywhere

January 30, 2017
The country’s first Medicaid-to-EHR interface reaches a notable milestone

In early 2016, the University of Mississippi Medical Center became the first organization in the country to establish an interface between an EHR and Medicaid using Epic’s Care Everywhere. The exchange allows UMMC to translate claims data from Medicaid into meaningful clinical data, helping Medicaid manage the health of its beneficiaries while also helping UMMC make better-informed decisions at the point of care. Now, UMMC and Medicaid have reached a notable milestone: they’ve securely exchanged more than 1 million health records.

“Care Everywhere functionality is completely transparent to the physician,” said CHIO Dr. John Showalter. “Most of our doctors are using it, they just don’t know it.”
