Using Epic to provide targeted opioid education

Editor’s note: MetroHealth’s opioid initiatives made great strides seen continued success. Here’s an update.

Like many cities across the country, Cleveland is in the throes of one of the deadliest drug epidemics in history. Project DAWN is a MetroHealth initiative to curb the crisis by providing Cleveland residents with opioid addiction education and the overdose-reversing drug naloxone. Individuals can stop by clinics throughout the city, where volunteers use a questionnaire in Epic to determine overdose risk and provide tailored education. Clinic attendees receive a free kit that includes naloxone, an educational DVD, and detox referral information. Since 2013, Project DAWN has distributed 4,000 kits and saved over 500 lives.

Learn more about Project DAWN here. Epic community members can see MetroHealth’s UGM presentation on this topic here.
