Filling App Prescriptions at Ochsner’s O Bar

Ochsner Health System’s O Bar is part Apple Genius Bar, part pharmacy. Patients can stop by to fill a “prescription” for health and fitness apps, try them out, download them, and begin sending the data they collect to providers in Epic—all with the help of an O Bar expert.

“The idea was to create a platform for that technology and to lower the technology barrier. The older people get, the more they’re removed from technology. If they could sit in the O Bar and play with an app, or someone could show them an app and spend time with them, they might start using it,” said Richard Milani, chief transformation officer. “Patients have loved it.”

Ochsner’s O Bar is one piece of their overall digital strategy. Epic community members can view and listen to Ochsner’s UGM presentation on their digital strategy.
