Using Cosmos data, Epic Research and the CDC co-published new research on the effectiveness of the mpox vaccine in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM).

Since mpox is a rare disease, studying it required a large, diverse database, and the size, representativeness, and recency of Cosmos data allowed the researchers to provide timely insights during a public health emergency. The results show that 2 out of 3 mpox cases can be prevented with full vaccination against mpox and this information was so important that the CDC received special permission to publish the preliminary findings online in December 2022.

This is new medical knowledge that directly impacts patient care and shows how our Cosmos participating organizations are helping to advance research and evidence-based medicine around the world.
