Using Epic to help physicians avoid unnecessary treatments and improve quality of care
Each year in the United States, unnecessary medical care represents 10% of total healthcare spending, or $210 billion. Cedars-Sinai Health System is doing their part to reduce this cost by encouraging physicians to follow Choosing Wisely guidelines, which foster conversations between providers and patients and help identify tests and procedures that might be unnecessary.
Cedars-Sinai uses decision support in Epic to let physicians know when a test, treatment, or procedure might be unnecessary, based on Choosing Wisely guidelines.
