Bronson Healthcare paired recent graduate nurses with mentors and offered targeted training for complex workflows as part of a program to improve nurse job satisfaction.

National Nurses Week is May 6 – May 12

Bronson Healthcare’s nursing department leaders set a goal in 2019 to improve nurse recruitment and retention. They were particularly interested in improving retention for recent graduates in their first year of nursing, who had a higher turnover rate. Bronson’s super preceptor program and training resources were two components of a comprehensive program that contributed to a 10% reduction in the organization’s first-year nurse turnover rate between 2019 and 2020.

How They Did It:

  • Identified nurses who excelled at EHR use to act as mentors
  • Scheduled shifts for new graduates to work with mentors
  • Added training for workflows to the Learning Home Dashboard
