Roots & Wings – a Foundational Recipe for Carrots and Chicken Wings
Everyone knows that the secret ingredient to a satisfying meal is love. With this recipe, you’re going to need plenty of that, plus the intention to make a difference in the lives of others and the allocated foundational funds and resources to execute your vision.
Ingredients:
Chicken wings:
- 2 lbs. chicken wings
- 1 tsp. garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup of your favorite hot sauce
Carrots:
- 1 lb. small carrots, peeled
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 Tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Preheat. Preheat your oven to 400°F. As it warms up, take a moment to reflect on the warmth you can bring to others through simple acts of kindness.
- Season chicken. In a large mixing bowl, toss the chicken wings with garlic powder, salt, and pepper, ensuring each piece is touched by the flavors of empathy and understanding. Arrange the seasoned wings on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Contemplate how small donations can have a big impact on nonprofits.
- Bake. Place the chicken in the preheated oven. Go do something good in your community while the food cooks. Remove the wings when the internal temperature reaches 185°F and the skin is as golden as the opportunity to do good in your world, about 20 minutes.
- Prepare carrots. Turn your attention away from social comparison and toward the carrots. In another large mixing bowl, whisk the honey, olive oil, salt, and pepper. Cook the carrots on the stovetop over medium-low heat, allowing them to simmer gently. Stir occasionally to ensure the honey glazes the carrots evenly without burning. If the honey begins to brown too quickly, reduce the heat to low and add a tablespoon of water to help control the temperature. Cook until the carrots are tender and glazed, about 10-15 minutes. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
- Coat. Once the chicken wings are done baking, transfer them back to the large mixing bowl. Pour the hot sauce over the wings and toss until all are coated evenly. Consider more ways you can contribute to fostering equity in your personal and professional life.
- Plate. When it’s all ready, arrange the wings and carrots on a plate with intention and respect for the ingredients and all it took to get them to this point. Consider how gratitude can be a catalyst for positive change.
- Invite. Reach out to someone to share the meal with you and ask them to make a donation to a charity of their choice, as a token of appreciation for your home-cooked meal and friendship.
