Expanding Online Scheduling to Colonoscopies Increases Access and Reduces No-Shows

Bronson Healthcare saves schedulers time and offers increased convenience for patients by enabling online scheduling for colonoscopies. Patients are seen an average of 90 days sooner and the no-show rate has decreased by 10%. In the two years since making this change, schedulers have saved more than 2,000 hours.

Since going live with self-scheduling for colonoscopies in 2020, Bronson has saved more than 2,000 hours of schedulers’ time and decreased the amount of time between when a provider signs a colonoscopy order and when the order is scheduled by more than 90 days. The no-show rate for colonoscopies dropped by 10%, which kept schedule utilization high.

How They Did It

  • Opened up MyChart scheduling for patients to schedule their own colonoscopies
  • Identified facilities with lower utilization to distribute appointments more evenly
  • Built scheduling decision trees that direct patients to the location that best fits their needs
