American Family Children’s Hospital Helps Create a Diabetic Doll
This holiday season, children across the country received received dolls that look just like them: brown hair, hazel eyes… and an insulin pump. Clinicians at the American Family Children’s Hospital, part of University of Wisconsin Health, helped designers at American Girl create a new Diabetes Care Kit so that diabetic kids can see themselves represented in the toys they play with. Dolls that use items like insulin pumps, hearing aids, and wheelchairs help all kids create an imagined world that’s more like the real world.
Epic’s Verona campus, the American Family Children’s Hospital, and American Girl are all located within a few miles of each other in the Madison, Wisconsin area¬¬, but that’s not the only Epic connection to American Girl. As startups, Epic and the precursor to American Girl shared the basement of a Madison apartment building.
