At Mayo Clinic, designated oncology nurses called navigators provide individualized educational, logistical, and emotional support to patients with cancer. Using features available in Epic’s Foundation System to track outreach, document specific needs, and manage interventions, the navigators help patients overcome barriers that could prevent or delay treatment. Last year, navigators provided 20,0000 interventions that addressed barriers to care, clearing the way for nearly 7,000 patients to receive timely cancer treatment.
