Deploying Epic to the Cuyahoga County Jail

MetroHealth is on a mission to improve care for all Cleveland-area residents, and that mission extends to inmates at the Cuyahoga County Jail.

“We really want to make a healthier Cuyahoga County, so we’re trying to see as many patients as we can,” says MetroHealth CMIO David Kaelber. “And even for patients we can’t see, we’re positioning ourselves to be accountable for their health.”

For patients who need psychiatric or infectious disease care, MetroHealth offers telehealth services, helping patients get the care they need while minimizing transportation between the jail and their hospital. MetroHealth has also moved inmates’ medical records from paper to Epic so providers have a more complete medical history and can continue to care for inmates after they return to the community.
